Monday, December 24, 2007 Foundation to handle 'Sidlakang Negros' By Edmund B. Sestoso
THE Provincial Government is set to turn over the management of the Sidlakang Negros Village to a private foundation soon.
Governor Emelio Macias II in a press conference held recently on the opening of the Buglasan 2007 at the Village situated in Barangay Piapi in Dumaguete City said, the Sidlakang Negros Foundation will be responsible in laying down the policies, rules and regulations regarding the use of the various booths and for other purposes that may serve the different local government units and the whole populace of the Sidlakang Negros Village.
The governor had earlier discussed the creation of the foundation at a meeting with some members of the private sector and civic organizations held at the Negros Oriental Convention Center.
The members of the foundation are Engineer Greg Uymatiao, businessman Ernie Quiamco, lawyer Wilma Yap, Dr. Joanne Sycip, Vicente Vicu and Glenda Descuatan.
The Buglasan festival's line up of activities will be held at the Sidlakang Negros Village.
The Buglasan Festival is the same festival that has been institutionalized in the province these last few years.
This time though, it has permanent structures. It has also been moved towards the end of the year to make it a three-in-one affair.
The province of Siquijor is participating in the festival.
Siquijor, which used to be a sub-province of Negros Oriental until 1972, was a bailiwick of Macias' father, the late congressman Lamberto Macias.
Macias said he invited Siquijor to join the Buglasan after they invited him to speak during the 'Araw ng Siquijor' last September 17, which was also the birthday of his late father.
The participation of the Province of Siquijor speaks about the bond of friendship that both provinces share, the governor added.
