Reshuffling of police chiefs early this year
By Edmund B. Sestoso

THERE will be a reshuffling of police chiefs in the different towns and cities in Negros Oriental early part of 2008, said Philippine National Police (PNP) provincial director Ramon Melvyn Buenafe.

Buenafe issued the statement in a huddle with members of the media during a joint Holiday Season party of both the members of the Dumaguete Press Club and the Kapisanan ng mga Broadcater sa Pilipinas (KBP) held at the Dumaguete Press Club Building.

Buenafe was the only official who was around during the occasion. He thanked members of the media for the support they gave to the provincial command.

Buenafe, however, dismissed rumors that the reorganization was due to some police chief's poor performance and some of them are allegedly linked to the illegal numbers game and the proliferation of illegal drugs.

He said the reorganization would be done because some of the police chiefs are retiring and others will go on leave for their schooling.

To buttress his point, he cited Siaton town police chief Senior Inspector Regulio Getalan who is soon to retire but opted to go on non-duty status prior to his retirement.

Also, Dumaguete police chief Superintendent Dionardo Carlos will be away on training in Thailand from January 3 to 13.

Since Carlos's training is just brief, there was no need to replace him, but instead an officer in charge will be designated, said Buenafe.

He also thanked Governor Emilio Macias II for his continued trust and confidence in his performance, adding that he wanted to continue serving the province as long as he is needed.

The governor earlier in a press conference made known his preference for the continued stay of Buenafe.

"He will not be leaving as he will continue to serve the province," said Macias in the year-end press conference.

Macias added that he is awaiting a response of an earlier communication he sent to the PNP national headquarters in Camp Crame.

Buenafe has now served the province for one and a half year.
