With fireworks bursting in the sky off the Coast of the Boulevard for an hour, and with thousands of people watching the colorful site, Macias led the countdown in welcoming the new year. With it came the culmination of the Buglasan Festival of Festivals 2007.
Macias and Board Member Mariant Eascano-Villegas led the group of local officials in the closing ceremonies of the Buglasan Festival of Festivals highlighted by the fireworks display, which was in coordination with the Dumaguete City government.
The festival is now put under the responsibility Provincial Tourism Office and other tourism stakeholders, as the culminating activity to cap the whole year round celebrations which go on in the different parts of Negros Oriental all throughout the year.
The fireworks display was just one among the various major activities in this year's Buglasan Festival.
Other highlights include the search and awarding of the Most Outstanding Negrense, the Pinaskuhan Sayawit, the King and Queen, Rondalla and the Buglasan showdown and Street Dancing.
The most significant happening in this edition of Buglasan was the transfer of venue for the activities and LGU booths in the newly constructed Sidlakang Negros Village, Showroom and Trade Center located inside the Provincial Nursery Compound, along EJ Blanco Drive, Piapi, Dumaguete City.
The compressed Buglasan 2007 started on December 21 and lasted at midnight of December 31st in time of the l18th year anniversary celebration of Negros Oriental as a province.
The governor credited officials, board members, the private sector and the tourism stakeholders for their wholehearted support which made the celebration of the Buglasan Festival of Festivals 2007 a resounding success.
The same with the previous Buglasan Festivals, this year's celebration also offered the public different activities every day, which showcased local talents, products, and the varied culture and arts, found in Negros Oriental.
Macias said the different festivals in the different towns and cities all over the province should be continued to be celebrated as they are among the many ways to attract both local and foreign tourists.
The Provincial Government has established the Sidlakang Negros Village, a permanent place for the different events and festivals and for the purpose of attracting more tourists to come and visit.
