Together with 25 other scholars from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean), he will undergo an extensive two weeks training on corporate governance.

It will be geared towards better and responsible corporate management for the benefit of all stockholders, especially minority stockholders, of corporations.

Mercado told Sun.Star that the training is meant to thresh out issues on the protection of stockholders rights, transparency, and impositions of sanctions.

Meanwhile, he also said that upon his return, the IBP in Western Visayas would hold its regional convention with an 18-unit mandatory continuing legal education (MCLE) lecture series in Dumaguete City.

The activity is scheduled from March 6 to 8, 2008 at the Negros Oriental Convention Center.

The convention, hosted by the IBP-Negros Oriental chapter, is made possible by the joint efforts of all IBP members headed by president Samsodin Tahir and Mercado, governor of IBP Western Visayas.

The event is the first in 30 years of IBP's existence in Negros Oriental.

More than 400 lawyer-delegates from Romblon, Guimaras, Antique, Capiz, Kalibo, Iloilo, Bacolod, Dumaguete and Siquijor are expected to attend the convention. (VLC)
