Torres tops Zamboanguita chess showdown

VETERAN chess player Bobby Torres of Dumaguete City emerged as champion in the just recently concluded 2008 Zamboanguita Centennial Chess Tournament held at the Zamboanguita gymnasium.

Torres, the current title holder of several chess competitions, showed his skill and gathered 6.5 points in the 7-round Swiss System 29-man event.

Torres pocketed the champion cash purse money of P2,000 and a trophy from the Municipality of Zamboanguita through Mayor Kit Marc Adnaza.

Professor Rolando Cataylo settled for second spot with 5.5 points and received P1,000 and a trophy.

Felicito Supat landed in third spot when he got the highest points in a tiebreaker with fellow chess combatant Alexander Bayalas and Ceasar Aling.

The trio divided equally the cash prize worth P1,500.
