Thursday, March 13, 2008 NegOr traders to meet with new police chief
THE Negros Oriental Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Nocci) will meet with newly installed Police Chief Leopoldo Cabanag to ascertain his peace and order programs for Dumaguete City.
Councilor Manuel Sagarbarria, Nocci president, said it is necessary to know the programs of the new chief of police so businessmen would know what support they can extend.
Businessmen, he said, are also concerned with the peace and order situation in Dumaguete City since it is the capital city of Negros Oriental.
Alex Sy, president of the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce Inc. in Negros Oriental, also said the peace and order in the city contributed to the province's improved economic situation.
Both Nocci and FCCC said they were unhappy with the efforts of former police chief Dionardo Carlos against criminality.
Mayor Agustin Perdices admitted that although there were unsolved cases during the time of Carlos, still the former police chief has done more than what was expected of him.
Perdices said he trusts the capability of the new chief but Carlos has proven to be one of the best that Dumaguete City has.
Perdices added that he wants the local police to be the country's best police station.
The mayor said he is confident that Cabanag would be able to meet his expectation, particularly in the maintenance of peace and order. (VLC/EBS)
