Saturday, March 15, 2008 3 classrooms gutted by fire By Syril G. Repe
ANOTHER fire hit three classrooms of the Amlan National High School located in Barangay Poblacion, Amlan, Negros Oriental near midnight on Wednesday.
Senior fire officer Lorenzo Transmonte, desk fire investigator, told Sun.Star that they immediately responded upon receiving reports of the fire incident, but the three rooms were already burned.
Transmonte said the fire started at the ceiling of one of the classrooms. The strong wind aided the fire in razing the other units.
Responding fire stations from Bais City, San Jose, and Matiao fielded fire volunteers to help lessen the damages.
Damage was estimated at P500,000.
Investigations are ongoing and the investigators are not discounting the possibility of a defective electrical wiring connection as the cause of the fire.
The Amlan National High School is the first school built by the municipal government of Amlan.
The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) provincial office warned all residents in the province to check their electrical wiring connection, especially those of old houses and buildings for safety reasons. They are also reminded to unplug appliances when not in use.
