Saturday, March 15, 2008 City to put up 3 wastewater treatment plants
THE Dumaguete City Government is now working double time to come up with the construction of three wastewater treatment plants to address the increasing concern for environmental preservation and for the maintenance of the people's health and safety.
This was bared by Engineer Rolly Clamonte, head of the Dumaguete City Environment and Natural Resources Office (Enro), during the recent media conference initiated by the government's Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in observance of World Water Day.
Clamonte said this is one way of complying with Republic Act 9275 otherwise known as the Clean Water Act.
Engineer Clamonte said the City Government has not neglected its obligations towards preserving the environment by having a centralized wastewater treatment facility, which has become controversial during the past months because it is placed within the vicinity of the Quezon Park. It is also near an elementary school.
They will also put up a septage treatment facility occupying 1.2 hectares of a government lot situated in a remote barangay in Dumaguete City.
The business community will shoulder the construction of a third plant for a centralized processing of wastewater.
Clamonte said the projects would start within the year. (Edmund B. Sestoso)
