Thursday, March 27, 2008 Councilor proposed holding of session in barangay By Syril G. Repe
COUNCILOR Espredion Catan has suggested to his colleagues at the Dumaguete City council the holding of a regular or special session outside the session hall on a case-to-case basis.
Catan, in a privilege speech during the session Tuesday, said they could hold a session in a barangay who has sought their help on some vital concerns.
The City Council can help the barangay council work out a solution to its problem.
He said it is important to discuss directly with residents of a barangay the problems or development programs of that area.
Catan said the purpose of the proposal is to minimize, if not do away, with the rather long and often unnecessary process involved in bringing to the City Council matters affecting the barangay.
"Kong magpahigayon me og session sa barangay, dinhi amo mabal-an ang problema sa barangay nga angyan taga-an og pagtagad sa konseho," Catan said. (If we hold a session in the barangay, we will learn the problems that need the attention of the City Council.)
Catan added it is better to hear directly from residents what they need and want for the barangay.
