THE local government of Valencia opened a sports clinic this summer for the youth to make them preoccupied with sports while on summer vacation.
Valencia Information Officer Des Tilos Jr. told Sun.Star the sports clinic, which started last Thursday, include basketball, volleyball, soccer, karate, arnis, boxing, swimming, lawn tennis lessons, among others.
It also offers competition on painting, song writing, modern dance and other cultural activities.
Tilos said Mayor Roldolfo Gonzalez Jr. and Representative Pryde Henry Teves (3rd District-Oriental Negros) are two of the sponsors on Valencia's open basketball tournament. The league is composed of 12 teams.
It will formally open at 3 p.m. on April 9 at the Municipal Gymnasium.
Expected to attend are Congressman Teves, Mayor Gonzalez, Municipal and Barangay officials.
Tilos also said that aside from the open basketball tournament, Valencia also sponsored inter-barangay Basketball tournament for boys and volleyball games for girls aged 18 and below.
Interested Valencianons in joining the competition may look for Gene Corteza, Municipal sports coordinator, he added.
