Vehicular accident kills 3, injures 23 in Siaton

SIATON, Negros Oriental -- Three people died and 23 others were injured when a mini dump truck's brakes malfunctioned causing it to collide with in an incoming motorcycle in Barangay Bonawon early Sunday morning.

Police Officer 3 Hermi Enojo of Siaton Police Station said passengers of the mini dump truck were the winners, trainers and dancers of the recently held barangay fiesta beauty contest in Bonawon Saturday.

Police investigation showed that the truck was on its way to Balanan lake but upon reaching a descending road near the lake its brakes malfunctioned, lost its control and bumped into an incoming motorcycle.

Killed on the spot were Teddy Alejado, 28, and Nicka Nueren Lajato, 13, of Bonawon, Siaton, both passengers of the dumptruck.

Also killed in the incident was Reynante Baya, 17, of Siaton, a motorcycle passenger.

Injured passengers were brought to Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital and Silliman University Medical Center in Dumaguete City.

Those injured were Donisa Abello, 15, Nicka Mendres, 18, Ryan Gracia Ombi-on, 25, Catherine Dayday Macapangal, 17, Joseph Candido Macias, 18, Rhea Mae Moreno Macapangal, 15, John Arpan Lajato, 17,Mabel Ramirez, 21,Judeth Candido Macias, 21,Jerwilty Candido Macias, 13, William Mente, 22, Sara Jane Bato, 18, Nova Mae Manipis, 16, Gerich Casido, 16, Michelle Abordo, 15, Jely Mae Dayuday, 17, Pedrita Baldos, 25,Carmilo Pajares, 13,Cherry Allado, 24, Jesica candido, 15, Bryan Pintor, 31 Patrick Lasola, 20, and Jonard Enocando.

The truck driver was identified as Noy Pajulas of Barangay Bonawon. Pajulas is now at the custody of the Siaton Police Station.
