Sunday, June 29, 2008 Pedicab drivers seek new fare increase By Edmund B. Sestoso
PEDICAB drivers trooped to the City Council Thursday, demanding another round of fare hike due to the unstoppable increase in the prices of fuel and basic commodities.
Federation of Dumaguete City Operators and Drivers Association (Fedumcoa) tried to convince members of the City Council the necessity of granting them another round of fare increase.
Federation president Glendo Selim said the present fare of P7.50 per kilometer is not enough to cope up with their basic needs and the other related economic problems they are facing.
The Fedumcoa members want the fare price increased from P7.50 to P8.50.
The P7.50 fare was granted recently by the city councilors through an ordinance.
Barely months of its implementation, the same group asked another additional one peso for pedicab fare.
The City Council heard the drivers' pleas but admitted they had to study further their proposal.
