A SOLDIER of the 11th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army assigned in Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental, was dismissed from the military service, for indiscriminate firing.
The dismissal of Private First Class (PFC) Lyro Parrenas from the military service was ordered by Major General Nestor Ochoa, commanding general of the 3rd Infantry Division.
Lieutenant Colonel Franco Gacal, commanding officer of the 11th IB, said Parrenas, who was drunk, indiscriminately fired his .45 caliber pistol while forcing his way out of a military camp in Barangay Mckinley, Guihulngan City on July 4, 2008.
He almost hit two barangay captains of Guihulngan, military investigations also showed.
Parrenas was arrested by the police after he figured in a motorcycle incident while fleeing from a military camp after firing his gun. He was on his way to San Carlos City, Negros Occidental.
Gacal said the dismissal of Parrenas from the military service should serve as a stern warning to all soldiers that any violation of the Armed Forces of the Philippines' (AFP) Code of Conduct will be dealt with accordingly. (VLC)
