Friday, September 05, 2008 Macias, Arnaiz to speak on iTAX in Germany
NEGROS Oriental Governor Emilio C. Macias II and Representative George P. Arnaiz are slated to meet local government officials of the Federal Government of Germany on September 17 to 19 in Berlin, Germany.
The Federal Government of Germany, through the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) has invited the two government officials to attend a forum of iTAX in Germany, said Capitol Information Officer Adrian Sedillo in a statement.
It can be recalled that Arnaiz has served as governor of Negros Oriental for three terms before Governor Macias assumed office in July last year.
Sedillo said Arnaiz and Macias will be accompanied by GTZ Decentralization Program Team Leader Ernst-Dieter Fuchs, who is presently providing technical assistance to the province in the implementation of iTAX.
Negros Oriental was chosen as the beneficiary of the automated tax collection system iTAX, which is being piloted in the province following an agreement between the Philippine government and the Federal Government of Germany.
Part of the said agreement is to spread the iTAX technology to local government units (LGU) in the country as the system is tailor-made for the LGUs, said Sedillo.
The system was first fully developed in the Republic of Tanzania, Africa where it was used for national taxes. (EBS)
