Wednesday, November 19, 2008 Dumaguete City fiesta kicks off chess festival
THE Dumaguete City Government is busy preparing for the upcoming City Fiesta and Charter Anniversary celebrations highlighted by sports activities that include a chess festival.
The 2008 Dumaguete Fiesta Open Chess Festival, slated on November 22-23 as part of the city's 60th Charter Day celebration, will be directly managed by the City Sports Development Office.
Rose Dumala, Negros Club 64 assistant secretary, said the chess festival will be held at the Negros Oriental Club 64 headquarters in the ground floor of the Tesda building.
Opening ceremonies will be in the morning of November 22 and the tournament, which will start on that day, will follow the 7 Round-Swiss System.
Dumala said top caliber chess player from the city and neighboring towns and cities in the province are expected to join the competition.
The champion will get a cash prize of P1,500, second place will receive P1,000, third place P700, fourth P500, and 5th place P300. (EBS)
