NegOr to build 4-storey hospital

THE Provincial Government of Negros Oriental will build a four-storey hospital building inside the compound of Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital (NOPH).

In a year-end press conference held at the governor's office Friday, Governor Emilio Macias II said the four-storey building will be built behind the main building of NOPH to cater more patients not just from the province but also from nearby provinces.

At present, some NOPH patients are housed at the hospital lobby for lack of rooms despite efforts to expand the hospital buildings and to add more rooms.

The proposed building will house the OB department, charity wards and private rooms, Macias said.

Macias, however, admitted that the Provincial Government has yet to allocate for the hospital's additional building.

Macias said the proposed building to be constructed next year will cost not less than P60 million.

The governor tried to ask help from the three national legislators for the purpose. He reported the plan after enumerating his accomplishments during his one-and-a-half years in office, which include the completion of the construction of 15 two-classroom school buildings under his slogan "Basta NegOr-Education 104."

Macias explained that the program will cover the construction of 55 new school buildings with a total of 110 classrooms all over the province as agreed with Education Secretary Jesli Lapuz.

He said the remaining 40 school buildings would be completed before classes start in June 2009. He added that Lapuz promised to provide teachers based on the number of classrooms to be built by the Provincial Government.

The Provincial Government entered into a P64-million loan package with the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP) to implement the program, he said.

Macias administration prioritized programs on health and education. (VLC)
