Council steps into project row
THE General Santos City Council finally intervened Wednesday in the conflict between members and officials of an association in Barangay Fatima who are at odds over the management of the public P4.7-million city waterworks project in Purok 17-B in the barangay.
Members of the Rural Waterworks and Sanitation Association (RWSA) earlier questioned the authority of their president Floro Adelarta and other officials over the management of their association.
Napoleon de Castro claimed Adelarta and his group have "illegally" taken over the association and have not accounted for the funds of the association since 1995.
This prompted de Castro to ask the blue ribbon committee to investigate the alleged anomaly.
Councilor Orlando Oco, SP blue ribbon committee chair, said an election would have to be conducted to resolve the long-standing conflict.
Oco ordered incumbent officials to elect new set of election officers on October 27.
The election officers, he said, would conduct the election of association officers next month.
He also told Adelarta and company to account for the funds generated by the association from the waterwork project. Danilo A. Reyes |
