City athletes win in Batang Pinoy games
DELEGATIONS from General Santos City to the Batang Pinoy 2002 Philippine National Youth Games competition (PNYG) kicked off with a good start with as its baseball team already posted two wins on the first day of the race, in Puerto Princesa, Palawan.
In a report furnished by delegation head Clement Asencio, the city's young baseball players also thrashed Batangas (13-5) in Sunday's opener and later in the day came back to trounce Isabela with 18-3.
General Santos City also leaped into the medal board after the girls lawn tennis team bagged a bronze in the said event.
Sisters Jesrel and Jessa Mendoza beat a pair from Mandaluyong in the quarterfinals but bowed in the semifinals Tuesday.
The pair of Marinella Alovera and Eligio Serohijos also bagged a bronze in the waltz event of the dancesport competition.
These victories recorded two bronze medals for the city so far. The city's volleyball team, meanwhile, prevailed over host Palawan. Gensan athletes also went into action in boxing and table tennis last night.
