AFP chief lauds Yano

ARMED Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Dionisio Santiago on Wednesday lauded the efforts made by the 601st Infantry Brigade commanding officer Col. Alexander Yano in maintaining the peace and order situation in the South Cotbabto-Sarangani-General Santos (Socsargen) area.

Santiago who visited the brigade headquarters on Wednesday said Socsargen was spared from the spillover of the war in Central Mindanao due to the approaches employed by Yano and his men.

"I want to congratulate Col. Yano in taking his responsibility properly and accomplishing his mission here," Santiago said.

Santiago said Socsargen was relatively peaceful despite the presence of many threat groups.

"Halu-halo ang mga armed groups at masasamang elemento dito gaya ng KFRG, terrorists, MILF at NPA (All the armed groups and bad elements like the KFRG, terrorist, MILF and NPA are present here).

But because of the good approaches na ginamit dito (employed here), this could be a good model," said Santiago.

Santiago however failed to disclose the approaches made by Yano and his men.

The AFP chief said Socsargen has been a good training ground for future AFP chief and Philippine Army commanding General.

Among the former AFP chief who were assigned here were General Arturo Enrile and General Roy Cimatu.

General Orlando Soriano, who became Army chief, was also assigned as brigade commander here. (Merlyn F. Velarde)
