City dads to probe complaint v. Catapang By Merlyn V. Fernandez
MEMBERS of the General Santos City Council approved on Monday a resolution paving the way for an investigation on the allegations that Dadiangas South Barangay Captain George Catapang reportedly received money from the controversial Magsaysay Park transaction.
Council blue ribbon committee chair Orlando Oco said the approval was reached after a thorough floor deliberation on the complaint filed by barangay councilman Nora Aponesto.
Aponesto earlier claimed Catapang reportedly received a P3-million check from PNP-RSBS for his role in the aborted transaction.
Oco had already ordered Catapang to submit his counter-affidavit.
"So far, wala pa naman akong natatanggap na sagot ni Catapang," Oco, however, said. (I have not received a reply from Catapang.)
Meanwhile, Oco said they are also going to determine if the complaint filed by Aponesto is not politically motivated considering that the issue happened more than six years ago.
"Papasok na ang kuwestiyon sa credibility ng complainant kung matagal na ang isyu at bakit ngayon lang siya nagreklamo," he said. (The credibility of the complainant will be put into question considering that he only raised the issue now.)
The Magsaysay Park scandal was used 1998 by former mayor Adelbert Antonino against then city mayor Rosalita Nuñez who subsequently lost in the election that year.
Catapang, who vehemently denied receiving bribe money from RSBS, earlier declared his willingness to run for city councilor next year.
He is closely identified with Nuñez.
