Transco says repairs of power lines rushed
THE National Corporation (TRNSCO) assured the public Tuesday that repair and restoration works are vigorously undertaken on the damaged towers along the Agus 2-Kibawe 138-kilovolt transmission line.
The absence of this main power line is disturbing the reliability of the Mindanao power grid to supply uninterrupted power to the north central, northeastern, southeastern and southwestern parts of Mindanao.
Other measures that Transco has been implementing include increasing the loading capacity of the Lugait-Tagoloan and Abaga-Tagoloan 138 KV lines, respectively, to accommodate the load normally carried by the Agus 2-Kibawe 138 KV line, and adapting an Automatic Load Drop (ALD) mechanism to preserve the system from collapsing whenever huge loads are taken from there to pave the way for the entry and synchronization of power emanating from the Independent Power Producers (IPPs) with the Mindanao grid.
Another measure undertaken to protect the power system from overloading and eventual collapse, particularly during peak hours brought by the limited capacity of the Abaga-Tagoloan lines, is the implementation of load curtailment or load shedding by electric cooperatives on their respective feeders in the areas above mentioned.
In layman's language, load shedding is the voluntary reduction of load requirement by an electric cooperative. In our area, the electric cooperatives include Socoteco II, Socoteco I, Sukelco, Cotabato Light and Magelco.
As a result of load shedding, the electric cooperatives will execute a power interruption or power rotation scheme during peak hours on its feeders.
Starting Monday, Transco has updated its load curtailment schedule from 10 a.m. to noon and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
At these timeframes, power consumers will experience power disruption by feeder as arranged by their electric cooperatives. PR
