Korean group to donate covered court building

A GROUP of Korean and Taiwanese businessmen committed to donate US$50,000 for the construction of a covered court for any school chosen by the General Santos City Government.

Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr. said the same group of Korean and Taiwanese philanthropists, who are also members of Lions International, also donated a covered court to the New Society High School in Barangay Sinawal.

"They left it to the City Government and the Department of Education (DepEd) to identify which school would be the beneficiary of their donation," Acharon told reporters who interviewed him at his office.

He said they recommended the General Santos City High School (GSCHS) in Purok Malakas as the site of the project.

"According to them, they want a school with a population of 5,000 and above. General Santos City High School has a population of more than 7,000," the city mayor added.

The Korean and Taiwanese donors however required the City Government to put up a P750,000 counterpart, which the city mayor said he is willing to give.

Acharon said that the tentative schedule for the groundbreaking ceremony is set for November 17.

Meanwhile, the foreign visitors will also visit all previous projects in the city that they have funded. Among them is the two-classroom building in Saway Elementary School.
