GenSan cited for urban planning innovation

THE city was recently cited by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council for its "innovative approach" to urban planning.

Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr., who received the award last week, said General Santos was one of the seven cities cited by both government agencies.

"It is a great honor for us," Acharon beamed.

He said there are 122 cities nationwide and being chosen as one of the seven best-performing cities for the comprehensive land use plan is already a feat.

The city mayor claimed the strategic location of the industrial, agricultural as well as residential zones in the city's land use plan was among those cited by the DILG and HUDCC.

Acharon received the award last October 30 at the Shangri-La Hotel in Metro Manila. EGE
