Gulle: He who is without sin
By Inocentes A. Gulle
Your business is our business

AFTER hearing and examining all pertinent commentaries, pros and cons on the Davide impeachment case, I cannot conclude any other way but that the whole exercise smells of stinking, dirty politics.

It could, however, have started as a means to exact vengeance for perceived wrongs done to the initiator, but in the process, it turned out a convenient vehicle to gain political ascendancy and business dominance to boot.

By all appearances, it is Danding Cojuangco's epic production to serve notice to one and all that he cannot be trifled with.

The complainant congressmen are just the actors in this melodrama, playing the role of champions of the people's welfare, and Chief Justice Davide, the offender that deserves (their) righteous retribution.

This whole sordid affair reminds me of an incident related by the Apostle John:

"The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus. 'Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such a woman. Now what do you say?'

"But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they keep on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

"At this, those who heard began to go away one by one, the older one first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, 'Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?'

"'No one, sir,' she said."

As to the Chief Justice, the Judiciary Development Fund is to him as pork is to the congressmen... or the coconut levy is to Cojuangco. Who then can better account for which? That is a question?

Davide impeachment -- twice or not -- he without sin may cast the first stone.
