Manny's arrival moved to give way to Ramadan
WEDNESDAY'S scheduled arrival of new world featherweight boxing king Manny Pacquiao has been moved for Thursday to give way to the Muslim feast day, Ramadan, which was been declared a non-working public holiday.
Ramadan is the Moslem's way of ending their month-long fasting.
The elaborate welcome for the newest toast of the boxing world will however push through as planned, according to sources from city hall.
Pacquiao arrives here Thursday, together with his wife Jinky and two sons, after a whirlwind schedule in Manila where he met with President Arroyo in Malacaņang for the fifth time.
The reigning General Santos City world super bantamweight king shocked the boxing world when he shellacked fancied Mexican featherweight champion Marco Antonio Barrera for ten rounds before pummeling his opponent in the 11th round last November 16.
The win catapulted him into the elite group of world-class boxers and lined him up to become the greatest Filipino boxer of all times.
The City Government, spearheaded by Mayor Pedro Acharon, will tender a dinner for Pacquiao on Thursday to honor his latest exploits.
A mass will also be held at the city hall grounds where a huge wide-screen television will replay his sensational knockout victory over Barrera.
