Postal office chief suspends Buensalidas

THE regional director of the Philippine Postal Corporation (PPC) announced Monday they have already placed Roldan and Erwin Buensalidas under preventive suspension for their alleged role in mail pilferage at the General Santos City postal office.

The two, who are father and son, were accused of pilfering foreign mails and dumping the opened letters in one of the vacant lots in the city.

PPC regional director Roberto Montinelo, however, stressed that an investigation will still have to be conducted to determine the culpability of the two employees.

The regional director arrived here together with the board of directors of the PPC to conduct an investigation into the complaint filed against the two suspected postmen.

"We are trying to determine if they really violated the Postal Service Act of 1992. For the meantime, ni-relieve na namin sila (we already relieved them)," he said.

The Buensalidas were reportedly seen by several witnesses dumping the pilfered letters.

"Nakita daw kasi nila na itinatapon ng dalawa iyong mga mails matapos mabuksan sa isang bakanteng lote (They were reportedly seen dumping the mails in an open lot after they opened them up)," Montinela added.

The Buensalidas have yet to give their statements regarding the allegations.

Meanwhile, Montinelo appealed to the public to refrain from inserting money and important items inside their mails.

He admitted that mail pilferage at the postal office is widespread and they have been instituting safety nets to ensure that the mails of their clients reach their destinations. MFV
