Aquisap explains side
GENERAL Santos City Police Office (GSCPO) director Senior Supt. Jeorge Aquisap last week admitted he used the license plate of another police car on his newly issued patrol car.
The City director was earlier accused of allowing the government cars issued to his office to be used by private persons in their private transactions. He is also accused of redesigning a GSCPO vehicle to make it appear it was his own personal vehicle.
Aquisap explained he used another plate number and had the siren and markings removed from his government-issued Toyota sedan patrol car to avoid being accused of driving without a license plate number.
He likewise justified the removal of the markings, saying the car is being used for surveillance.
The police chief said all changes and improvements he made on the car had the clearance from the Police Regional Office in Region 12 (PRO 12).
"Mahirap kasing mag-surveillance tayo na may wangwang at identity na sasakyan ng police kaya kinakailangang tanggalin iyong mga features ng sasakyan for security reasons (We have to remove the features for security reasons because it is difficult to conduct surveillance if the car has a siren and police identifying marks)," he said.
He also justified the reported presence of the pick-up vehicle issued by the City government to his office at the fishport complex loaded with fish.
"Kung ang sinasabi nilang nakita iyong pick-up sa fishport, hindi ko na responsibilidad iyon dahil nai-release ko na iyon sa CIB (It is not my responsibility if it was seen at the fishport because I released it to the custody of the Criminal Investigation Branch [CIB])," he explained.
He said the CIB could have been investigating a case there. Merlyn F. Velarde |
