Guard suspected of P1M robbery, hunted
By Aquiles Zonio

POLICE are hot on trail of a security guard suspected of looting an estimated P1 million worth of assorted cellular phones and cell cards from a Smart Telecommunications Center last Sunday evening in General Santos City.

Suspect Nardo De Asis Jr., a member of Megamatrix Security Agency and resident of Purok Palen, Labangal Village, was the guard on duty Sunday evening when the theft happened.

Lea Yulo, an employee of Smart who was first to arrive at the establishment early Monday morning, was surprised when she found out that the establishment was ransacked.

De Asis was supposed to log out at 8:00 a.m. Monday, but it was found out that he abandoned his post as early as 5:45 a.m. of the same date.

Yulo found the key and the 12-gauge shotgun issued to the guard right at the doorstep of Smart office.

Senior Insp. Maximo Sebastian, Criminal Investigation Branch chief of the city police command, said they are considering De Asis is the main suspect because of circumstances surrounding the incident.

Police were not able to locate De Asis in his residence. The suspect could also not be tracked down even in Alabel town in Sarangani Province, his declared permanent address.
