Trike fares increased
By Allen S. Terencio

POLOMOLOK, South Cotabato -- Commuters here will have to shell out an additional peso for tricycle fare as the municipal council passed an ordinance allowing increase of fares for tricycle transport services.

The ordinance, approved late December last year, allowed the increase of tricycle fare from P4 pesos to P5 pesos within Poblacion Polomolok and nearby barangays.

Existing tricycle rates in other barangays also have additional rate of P1.00 for adults; P.80 for card-bearing senior citizens, high school and college students with proper identification card; and P.60 for elementary pupils.

The ordinance applies to authorized and franchised tricycle-for-hire registered by the Municipal Franchising and Regulatory Board (MTFRB) of Polomolok.

Popoy Juridico, a tricyle driver, said they started implementing the fare hike on the second week of this month. Juridico said the hike does not make a difference because the price of gasoline also went up.
