Former boxing champ beats lover By Aquiles Zonio
Former World Boxing Council junior lightweight champ Rolando "Lando" Navarrete has hit the spotlight, but this time for reportedly beating his lover black and blue on Tuesday night.
Elizabeth Tambo, Navarrete's live-in partner, was found half-conscious and lying face down on the floor of their residence in Alunan village by responding Bula police. She was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Her niece had rushed to the police to report the incident and seek assistance.
At the hospital, the victim, despite difficulty in breathing, managed to narrate between sobs what took place early Tuesday evening.
She said Navarrete was jealous because men next door would stare at her. A heated argument ensued between the couple.
She reportedly fought back, but the former boxing champ took a sledge hammer and hit her several times on the back of her head and body.
He fled away after Elizabeth's niece ran to the police station to report the incident.
The victim said she will file appropriate charges against her lover, whom she said loses his temper every time men next door stare at her.
Last week, fish port authorities banned Navarrete from entering the premises of the fish port after several personnel of various fishing firms complained that the former boxing idol had been bullying them.
