MSU students hold protest vs fee hike

STUDENTS of Mindanao State University-General Santos City (MSU-GSC) Unit staged a protest action Monday over a proposed round of tuition fee increase for coming school year 2004-2005.

The state-owned university will reportedly implement 100 to 300 percent increase making tuition fees at the school at P100 per unit for the next school year.

The school also raised tuition and other fees last year by as much as 400 per cent, from P5.70 to P25 per unit.

Around 80 percent of the students participated in the protest by wearing black shirts.

Students argued that MSU-GSC was originally established to cater to poor but deserving students, especially the members of the cultural communities.

The proposed increase, they said, would negate such purpose.
