Theft charges filed v. construction workers
By Allen S. Terencio

THE Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 12 on Tuesday filed a criminal complaint for qualified theft against 11 suspects in connection with the alleged looting of construction materials at the KCC Mall construction site along J. Catolico Avenue.

Inspector Jose Teody Condesa, CIDG investigation officer, identified the accused as Jonathan Borja, Erminefre Balid, Herminigildo Tan, Jose Diones Jr., Ricky Montalaba, and Leo Rosauro. All are construction workers of the KCC Mall.

Included in the complaint were security guards Samuel Magbanua, John Sugaste, Ruel Sobrepeña, Joel Casulla and Nino Piodina.

In his criminal complaint filed before City Prosecutor Edilberto Jamora of the Municipal Trial Court, Condesa claimed that on March 22 at around 2 a.m., the above-named accused conspired in stealing about 300 kilos of copper wire worth P40,000 from the KCC Mall construction site.

The said copper wire was found loaded in a white Mazda pick-up truck and was about to be transported outside when intercepted joint elements of CIDG 12, Bula police and some security guards of KCC Mall.

The vehicle reportedly belonged to the owner of Sto. Niño Junk Shop located in Barangay Labangal.

Condesa further revealed that the same suspects also stole about 260 kilos of copper wire amounting to P28,000 and sold them the same alleged buyer last March 7.

The CIDG officer said the five security guards were implicated in the crime as they reportedly connived with the suspects in the attempt to sneak out the items.

Condesa said a bail of P60,000 each was set by the court for the temporary liberty of the suspects.

The buyer of the stolen copper wire would also face criminal charges for violation of the Anti-Fencing Law, according to the CIDG 12 official.
