POLICE in General Santos formed a task force to expedite the resolution of Binoya murder case.

Chief Supt. Antonio Billones, Central Mindanao police director, ordered on Friday the creation of Task Force Binoya to dig deeper into the slaying of broadcaster Ely Binoya.

Binoya, a manager and commentator of MBC-DZRH Radyo Natin based in Malungon town, Sarangani Province, was shot to death by two unidentified assailants along the national highway in Barangay Batomelong Thursday afternoon.

Billones designated Supt. Willie Dangane, city police director, to lead the newly created probe body.

Immediately after the creation of the task force, Dangane ordered the investigator of the Tinagacan police station to speed up the gathering of witnesses and data so appropriate charges could be filed soon against the suspects.

Earlier, Dangane stated that the June 7 mauling of Binoya by the relatives of Malungon Town Mayor Teodorico Padernilla could be a good start off point for the investigation.

A day after his killing, the police have so far gathered only "circumstantial evidence."

"We already established circumstantial evidence. With this, we could determine who are responsible in the killing of Benoya and we will not stop until such time that we will be able to locate them," Dangane vowed.

He said the police will have to compile everything to support scientific evidences they now have in hand, including the statement of people who were at the waiting shed near the scene of the shooting incident.

Dangane said they now have a lead but declined to elaborate.

"We cannot give you the name of the group that we are focusing to until such time that we could get a good evidence against it," he said.

Dangane likewise declined to comment when asked if police are looking into the angle that the slaying of Benoya was related to the June 7 mauling incident that involved the victim.

"It will be premature to give details on that particular matter. But as I've said, we have already a lead, although it is circumstantial," Dangane said.

Binoya was on his way back to Malungon to file his complaint against a certain Colot Padernilla, Bebot Toreta and Balong Belmonte, who were identified as the ones responsible in mauling the victim.

On Thursday morning, Binoya went to the provincial prosecutor'soffice where he subscribed his affidavit-complaint before Provincial prosecutor Faizal Amerkhan.

"There is a proper forum where one could ventilate his grievances if ever he felt slighted by the critical commentaries hurled by any member of the media," lamented Dangane.

The police official joined with the members of the local media in condemning the brutal killing of Binoya.
