Cop faces summary dismissal
SARANGANI officials are seeking for the dismissal of a cop who allegedly sold a truckload of illegally cut lumber which were seized in Alabel town two weeks ago.
Sarangani Governor Miguel Dominguez said he has recommended the filing of charges against PO1 Reynaldo Pelarion of the 1206th provincial mobile group citing the evidences against the latter were strong.
"In fact, (Central Mindanao police director) Chief Supt. Antonio Billones already gave the clearance that if the evidence merits, Pelarion will be dismissed as member of the Philippine National Police," he said in a radio interview Thursday.
Dominguez, who earlier ordered Sarangani police director Supt. Casimiro Medes to investigate Pelarion, said they have confirmed that the erring policeman sold to a lumberyard here the 1,500 board feet of Dao lumber which he earlier confiscated somewhere in Barangay Alegria in Alabel.
Medes said that after confiscating the lumber, Pelarion allegedly brought them to the DTS lumberyard and sold for an undetermined amount.
The owner of the yard eventually sold the lumber to a local fishing company based in Purok Saig in Barangay Calumpang.
Medes said Pelarion's illegal activity was uncovered when the owner of the seized illegally cut lumber complained to their office.
The complainant, whose identity has been withheld, confirmed upon inspection that the lumber products confiscated from him were the ones sold to a fishing firm.
Dominguez said he would pursue the dismissal proceedings against Pelarion to "give an example" to other erring policemen in his area.
"We don't want to let these illegal activities to continue. We will continue the cleanup until Sarangani province becomes graft and corruption-free," he said.
In line with this, the governor said he has also instructed Medes to free the province from mulcting or kotong policemen.
"These activities will not be tolerated in our province. Every highway or road from Baluyan to all boundaries of the province will be closely watched against these mulcting activities," he added.
