3 hurt in Sultan Kudarat jail blast
THREE inmates were seriously injured Monday after two inmates lobbed a grenade inside the provincial jail in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat in an apparent attempt to escape.
Isulan police chief Supt. Anianes Adap identified those injured as Rolando Bautista, Charlie Balbosa and Abner Borromeros.
Police sources said Mamadra Almansa and Merham Abubakar, both detained for murder charges, tried to blow up the entire provincial jail compound using three fragmentation grenades in an attempt to break out from jail.
Only one of the grenades that they planted in separate corners of the jail compound exploded, thwarting the plans of the suspects.
Authorities recovered two live MK-72 grenades and a safety lever in the blast site.
Those injured remain in serious condition at the Isulan Provincial Hospital from multiple shrapnel wounds.
Frustrated murder charges are being added to the previous cases of the suspects.
