Philbest inaugurates tuna pouch line

PHILBEST Canning Corporation is responding to the increasing demand for tuna in pouch with the recent inauguration of its tuna pouch line at its cannery facility in Tambler.

As an initial production output, the new venture will churn out 500 cases per day or 2000 pouches (for 3kg pouches).

Sizes vary from 200 grams, 1.2 kilogram and 3 kilogram pouches.

The pouch line is geared toward serving the demands of the US and European markets.

The formal ceremony was attended by members of the Rivera family--owners of Philbest Canning--together with friends and partners from the banking sector.

Executives from RD Corporation, the holding company of Philbest, also came to join the celebration.

In his speech, Ritche Rivera said, "the tuna pouch market is fast growing and in line with our vision of becoming the leader in the industry, Philbest innovates and surges ahead along with the trends. Pouched tuna is just one of them. There will more projects next year. We set our eyes on our vision as we work hard towards realizing it."

For his part, Rodrigo Rivera Sr. stressed that the Philippines can definitely compete with the best in the world in the tuna processing and marketing arena.

Among other advantages is the Philippines have highly skilled and available labor.

The recent 2003 Top Exporter of the Year Award that Philbest received from President Arroyo, through the Export Development Council, goes to show that the efforts of the men and women behind Philbest have paid off.

"The government is recognizing your contribution to the country in terms of job creation and revenue generation." Rivera concluded even as he challenged his employees to "sharpen your pencils" and keep on improving and growing. (PR)
