Hot lumbers seized in Kiamba By Aquiles Zonio
SARANGANI PROVINCE -- Local authorities in Kiamba, Sarangani confiscated Sunday evening more than 4,000 board feet of illegally cut lumber.
Kiamba Mayor Raul Martinez, who led the team composed of elements from the local police and military, told reporters that the hot items were composed of hardwood species like yakal and lauan.
Martinez further revealed that the suspects dragged the forest products via the river until it reached the shoreline of Kapati.
The suspects, who escaped arrest, were in the process of loading the illegal lumber on a fishing boat when they were intercepted.
The mayor added that the unregistered fishing vessel was bound for Barangay Lumasal in nearby Maasim town, this province.
He vowed to file appropriate charges against the suspects and the owner of the fishing boat identified only as Neneng.
