Sarangani marks 12th anniversary

SARANGANI will celebrate its 12th Foundation Anniversary and 2nd Munato Festival this week.

Vice Gov. Bridget Chiongbian-Huang, this year's festival chair, said the province will showcase its past during the weeklong celebration that will kick off Thursday at the Capitol grounds.

"The exhibits will hopefully open livelihood and investment opportunities among our stakeholders and attract investors to the province," Chiongbian-Huang said.

Several sporting and entertainment events have been lined up for the occasion.

Huang said tribal and traditional demonstrations will accent the week-long affair.

It was the late congressman James Chiongbian, Huang's grandfather, who authored a law that led to the creation of Sarangani province in 1992.

Senator Manny Villar will be the guest speaker.

Undersecretary Nasser Pangandaman of the Department of Agrarian Reform and former Australian consul general Mariana Walkey were invited to grace the event.

Makeshift stores and booths were built at the capitol compound.

Sarangani Gov. Miguel Dominguez invited all residents in the province to join the festivities.

Dominguez explained that the Munato Festival is in honor of the historical first people in the province, which Sarangans call Munato.
