Dev't program undertakes integration planning for project areas
By Cathy T. Apelacio

ALABEL, Sarangani -- In a bid to mainstream key development models or schemes into the local government units, the Upland Development Programme-Project Management Office (UDP-PMO) based in Davao City is scheduled to conduct a series of action planning for covered areas in the different provinces.

The action planning for Sarangani and South Cotabato will be held on February 7 at the Phela Grande Hotel in General Santos City with 62 delegates composed mostly of technical personnel from the local government units expected to participate.

Perfecto Cagaanan Jr., program development communication specialist, said the activity is expected to "come up with a clear-cut integration/action plan that will pave the way toward mainstreaming into the LGU systems the three key development schemes the Programme is espousing."

He said the schemes were "basic and complementary to each other and considered as keys to a more sustained development."

The UDP, Cagaanan added, was able to evolve and have successfully tested development schemes that will benefit the uplands as well as the lowlands.

The schemes, which are the Upland Agricultural Extension Delivery; Barangay Forest Protection and Management; and Labor-based Routine Road Maintenance, he said were the results of UDP substantial experiences in the past seven years.

The Upland Development Programme, since its inception in 1999, has been pursuing its goal to develop replicable models to conserve upland resource base while at the same time improving the living standards of upland communities. (CTA/PIA-SarGen)
