Groups join reforestation summit

VARIOUS sectors from all over Socsksargen area joined the Maleh To Kayu reforestation summit Friday in Koronadal City.

Representatives from the Department of Environment of Natural Resources (DENR), provincial governments of South Cotabato, Davao del Sur and Sultan Kudarat, municipalities of Tampakan, Columbio and Kiblawan, barangay and tribal councils within the Tampakan project, Sagittarius Mines, Inc. (SMI), government agencies, non-government organizations and civic groups gathered and signed a memorandum of undertaking (MOU) for the implementation of the Maleh To Kayu reforestation program.

The MOU outlines the functions and responsibilities of all sectors that have previously committed full support to the Maleh To Kayu during its launching that was witnessed by DENR Secretary Michael Defensor on January 24 in Barangay Tablu in Tampakan, South Cotabato.

Maleh To Kayu, a B'laan phrase which means "let us plant" is a five-year program aiming to forest and reforest 500 hectares in the pre-identified areas within the Tampakan project, targeting to plant no less than 250,000 trees of varied species.
