Ligtas Buntis hopes to solve pregnancy woes

MAYOR Jun Acharon led the launching of the program "Ligtas Buntis: Siyempre, Mahal Kita" Monday.

In his remarks, Acharon, said the program is aimed at preventing unsafe and unwanted pregnancies, improper family planning, and difficulties in child birth by providing couples, men and women, as well, of reproductive health with correct information.

Acharon expressed support to the program that would come in a way of a door-to-door massive information campaign.

The opening day started with a motorcade around the city and a press conference with the Mayor and other key officials of the city after the flag ceremony.

For her part, City Health Family Planning Affairs Chair Emma Dumaoan said most couples are having unmet needs like improper practice of family planning such as spacing, the use of calendar method, and non-affordability of proper family health care among others.

She said the City Health Office (CHO) should start its free medical services for pre-natal care and family planning with at least two barangays with the most number of unmet needs.

She also announced the availability of the City Health staff to speak on family planning and pregnancy guidelines in symposia and forums that may be organized by schools and other interest group.

This program is in consonance with the national program dubbed as Ligtas Na Pagbubuntis that seeks to provide family planning and maternal care education and services to households is designed to start this month until March 2005. (JDZC-PIA-SarGen)
