Southwestern Mindanao politicians back Arroyo's dev't agenda By Bong S. Sarmiento
KORONADAL CITY -- They are setting aside politics.
Political leaders in Region 12, a known opposition bailiwick, have agreed to fully support President Arroyo's Medium-Term Philippine Development Plan (MTPDP 2004-2010).
It may be recalled that in the last May 10 elections, the votes in the region were tilted against Mrs. Arroyo.
Of the four provinces in Region 12, the President managed to score victory only in Sultan Kudarat.
She was only second to the late actor Fernando Poe Jr.
Maria Lourdes Lim, vice chair of the Regional Development Council (RDC) 12 said the four governors and five city mayors in the region have manifested they will carry on their respective jurisdictions the MTRDP, the National Government's framework to bring about country-wide economic progress.
Lim said the governors signified their support to the MTPDP by signing a memorandum of agreement (MOA) early this week.
She added the political leaders in Region 12 also vowed to implement the Arroyo government's Medium-Term Public Investment Program (MTPIP) for 2005-2010.
Earlier the RDC 12 approved its Medium-Term Regional Development Plan (MTRDP) for 2004-2010 in consonance with the President's MTPDP, according to Lim.
Under the MOA, the parties [regional political leaders] agreed to jointly pursue advocacy and implementation of development initiatives in achieving the envisioned development at the local, regional and national levels as embodied in the MTPDP and MTRPD and local development plans.
Those who signed the MOA were South Cotabato Governor Daisy Avance Fuentes, Sarangani Governor Rene Miguel Dominguez, Tacurong City Mayor Lino Montilla and the representatives of North Cotabato Governor Emmanuel Piñol, Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr. of General Santos City and Mayor Fernando Miguel of Koronadal City.
