4th Armm biz confab seeks to create jobs, stamp out poverty

ENHANCING the region's business climate for better economic growth will be the main thrust of this year's 4th Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (Armm) Business Congress slated June 28 -29, 2005 in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi.

Some 400 key business leaders, Armm businessmen, government officials, and non government organization representatives will convene to discuss vital issues that affect the conduct of business and investment in the region.Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-tawi, Maguindanao, Lanao del Sur and Islamic City of Marawi comprise the Armm.

"It's about time that we join the other provinces in moving towards economic progress.If we have a flourishing business sector, we can create more jobs and gradually eliminate poverty. We have the resources and we have skilled people. We are proud to say that we are a peaceful region, and there are numerous business opportunities that await entrepreneurs in the Armm," stressed Datu Haron Bandila, Armm Business Council Chair.Mr. Bandila also serves as the Conference Chairperson of the annual gathering.

Promoting Armm, particularly Tawi-Tawi, as an investment destination will be among the objectives of this year's business gathering.Altab Tulawie, Regional Board of Investments (RBOI) Chair in the Armm said that the region benefited from more than P8.8 billion worth of investments in 2003.He added that more than 10 existing firms also have expanded their operations in the region.

Fruits, seaweed, cassava, coconut, fishery, and rubber are the major industries in Armm.
