Cop chief, 6 others sacked over radio broadcaster's slay By Bong S. Sarmiento
KORONADAL CITY -- The chief of police and six other policemen in Polomolok town, South Cotabato were relieved from their posts for the killing two weeks ago of a part-time radio commentator, the police confirmed Saturday.
Superintendent Adolfo Bautista, deputy director of the South Cotabato police office, said they were transferred to the provincial mobile force last Tuesday to give way to the speedy the investigation in the slaying of Rolando "Dodong" Morales.
Morales, host of the program "Tingog sa Barangay" at Radio Mindanao Network in General Santos City, was shot dead by eight men riding in tandem in four motorcycles around 6 p.m. last July 3 along the national highway in Barangay Poblacion, Polomolok town.
"But I would like to clarify that they are not suspects. They were replaced so that the probe will go smoothly. The witnesses are adamant to give information because these policemen are known to be associated to both parties," Bautista said.
He said there are loose talks that Morales's killing could have been due to a "struggle of power" between the two parties that he, however, failed to identify.
Relieved were Chief Inspector Rex Anongos, the municipal police chief, Senior Police Officers (SPO) 4 Remenito Mabaquiao and Reynario Garfin, SPO1s Raymundo dela Cruz Dailo Bautista and Agrifino Espino, and Police Officer 3 Jeremias Reyes, according to SPO2 Lapulapu Kuizon, Polomolok police desk officer.
1204th Police Provincial Mobile Group head Chief Inspector Carlos Hallado replaced Anongos, who earlier said that witnesses could not identify the suspects because they were all wearing helmets.
Kuizon said that raids have been conducted at the residences of possible suspects in the killing of Morales but so far none has been arrested.
Relatives of Morales believed he was killed because of his anti-drug crusade over his weekly radio program. He was an active member of the Barangay Anti-Crime Task Force at the time of his death and has been receiving death threats prior to it.
