Editorial: Right direction
THIS year's Yaman Gensan has finally and fittingly cited the city's small and medium enterprises that, through all the years, have been the loyal partners of the local government in the development of the city.
Long before some of the city's big businesses blossomed into economic empires of their own, it was the entrepreneurs, along with their enterprises, who carved the city's early beginnings.
As proven in the past, it is the locals who have plenty at stake who would stick it out through thick and thin.
In these trying times, these enterprises are what makes the local economy grind, albeit and sometimes, slowly.
The City Government, by fully supporting Yaman Gensan, is to be lauded for its efforts to keep this enterprising spirit live on.
But the support should not stop at giving citations and awards.
There are many windows of soft loans and grants which the City Government could avail of and help develop and create more enterprises.
And while these enterprises will help keep the city's economy afloat, the local government should not also lose focus on quality but cheap products and services that these enterprise are now offering for this will eventually open up opportunities for local businessmen to become competitive not only with other cities but also in the international market.
