Education top priority for Sarangani
ALABEL, Sarangani -- Governor Miguel "Migs" Dominguez has placed education as "top priority program" of his administration.
He said funds "traditionally used to build waiting sheds and basketball courts are now invested in education."
Various projects have been implemented and pipelined for both the elementary and secondary levels in different schools of the province, he opined.
Dominguez admitted, however, the need to make some improvements in the province's educational system to boost students' skills and capabilities for them to keep phase with globalization.
He also described children as the "future not only of Sarangani but also of the world."
Recently the province has acquired from Kalahi Cidss one-classroom school building with toilet and electrical facilities for Lun Padidu High School in Malapatan.
It also facilitated 300 wooden armchairs for San Vicente National High School in Glan from Dole Philippines and 200 units armchair for Kiamba National High School from Conrado Alcantara Foundation, Inc. (Cafi).
In addition, the province with Petron Philippines has espoused the "Adopt-a-School Program" piloting Pangyan Elementary School in Glan while Arcal Elementary School in Maasim was a recipient of Coca Cola "Little Red Schoolhouse."
Dominguez said the local initiatives are in congruent to the 10-point agenda of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo primed to serve the best interests of the Filipinos.
President Arroyo's 10-point program promotes among others education and youth opportunity via the construction of school buildings; provision of desks and chairs; books for students; and access to scholarship grants of children of poor families.
From P671,176 in school year 2004-2005, the governor proudly announced the budget for the Paaral Para Sa Sarangans (PPSS) which was increased to P1.835 million this year.
The PPSS "provides assistance to poor but deserving students in the secondary, vocational and college education."
