Kristine, a dark horse in McDonald's Next Big Thing
SHE'S scared, maybe even intimidated, by her co-finalists in McDonalds's Next Big Thing talent search with MTV Philippines and Vicor.
In fact, Kristine Gonzaga Demeterio, the only promdi finalist from Cebu, thinks Abby Vicente (Camantique), Gayle Dizon, Zion Aquino and Allan Silonga are "truly talented and superb performers."
She believes it'll be Gayle who'd emerged winner. "Nindot kaayo iya rendition" of "Sweet Thing" by Chaka Khan that she'll perform during the finals, she admits in an SMS message.
She also noted that Zion has an edge with the way he had his "Ordinary People" number rearranged with dance in the last part. "He's super good dancer pa gyud!"
In however things will go, Kristine said, "I will just be myself. Hadlok lang ko. It's up to the judges na jud."
Kristine will still sing her entry song "Emotions" by Destiny's Child when the NBT Magic Five perform their best at 3PM today (Sunday, August 21) at The Fort in Metro Manila where Globe GenText subscribers will enjoy being seated by the front rows.
She said the others have arranged a medley of R&B songs. "G'pang-rearrange ang music nila, nice kaayo," she noted. "Ako ra'y simple," she added.
Compounding her anxiety about today's main event, the singer of the One in Him Band that regularly performs retro music at Camp Z resto bar in Mandaue City, Cebu will perform first among the five.
Kristine's friends in Cebu, however, feel very optimistic for her. "While Kristine thinks her co-finalists are better, they actually think alike of each other," notes one. "She doesn't know she is the dark horse in their pack."
Having seen the five guesting on MTV from August 17 to 19, they thought Kristine has wit that the rest don't have. And more importantly, she had the better voice, they thought.
Will Kristine be the next big thing? God knows who He will bless, and certainly He has a purpose.
One thing for sure, the winner will take home a cash prize of P250,000 from McDonald's, plus a recording contract with Vicor and a dream concert that MTV will produce for the winner with MTV's pack of talents.
