Dolefil donates armchairs to Sarangani high school

MAASIM, Sarangani -- "Approved without thinking," an executive of Dole Philippines told Governor Migs Dominguez over the phone recently when the governor conveyed the request of the Parent Teachers Community Association for armchairs.

Dole Philippines Inc. and Mahintana Foundation delivered to Colon National High School 350 wooden armchairs painted blue, yellow and red--the national colors.

"Ang mga silya na nandito ngayon ay isang gesture ng pagmamahal ng Dole Philippines, Inc. sa mga tao dito sa Maasim," said company representative Gonzalo Palma. "Ang Dole Philippines, Inc. ay isang business company na kumikilala na ang tagumpay at kalusugan sa ekonomiya ng isang community ay magisimula sa pagtuturuan ng lahat ng mga tao sa iba't ibang sector."

Palma also recognized the "energy and responsiveness" shown by the local government officials led by Governor Dominguez for projects to prosper in the province and its municipalities.

Palma said this has given confidence to the company to participate in the province's thrust towards progress.

Palma also noted the flock of investors to the province particularly in Maasim. This signifies the local government has gained the interest and trust of other business companies to put their money in the municipality, he said.

"Ang paglago ng ekonomiya at pagpasok ng mga investors ay nakasalalay sa peace and order at sa pamunuan ng ating political leaders," Palma added.

In addition, Dominguez requested the release of P300,000 from the municipal government for the construction of two-storey school building in Colon National High School as counterpart to the provincial local school board's P300,000 fund.

"Politics is the science of good governance," Dominguez said. "That is why you have seen the past few months many investors and organizations from all over the world coming into your municipality dahil gusto nilang tumulong."

The governor said the drive must first come from the people that they need help.

"In the next few years we will see more and more improvements in Maasim. Marami nang tumutulong sa atin as a result of good governance," the governor said.

Dominguez told the students to "continue your education because Maasim will need you in the near future, and we will be behind you."

Maasim Mayor Aniceto Lopez Jr. recalled the municipality's period of armed conflict, which was now being replaced by the flow of investors into the municipality.

Dole Philippines has opened a 5,000-hectare pineapple plantation in Barangay Amsipit.

"We can make Maasim the next pineapple capital not only in the Philippines pero sa tibuok kalibutan," the mayor said.

Late last year, Dole Philippines also turned over 300 chairs to San Vicente National High School in Glan, through the governor's office. (Sarangani Information Office)
