1st National Dog Olympics to open 2005 Tuna Festival
ON AUGUST 26 and August 28, the Tuna Festival of Gensan will play host to the largest number of Utility Dogs (Dog Sports players) ever to assemble in the history of the country.
Spearheaded by the Tuna Festival Council, the City Mayor's Office, Purina Pro-Plan, Air Philippines, Pacific Seas Seafood Market and Tribes Unlimited Events Management and Consultancy Group, this two-day gathering will feature for the first time the Mondio Ring National Trials.
Mondio Ring is a higher dog sports discipline which is famous all over Europe, the US and Japan and is fast gaining adherents in the Philippines and the rest of Asia.
Another dog sports discipline not to be missed is the extreme agility competitions, so-named because of its more challenging and extra-difficult hurdles and obstacles.
Again, this is a first in the history of dog sports in the Philippines because entries from all over the country are vying for the championship title.
For the past two years, a local dog club, the Pinetown Highdrive Extreme Kennel Club headed by one of General Paulino Santos' grandsons, Tito, has been instrumental in increasing the awareness of Dog Sports not only in the region but also throughout the country.
For this year's celebration of the Tuna Festival and as one of the festival's opening events, he is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that this dog sports competition is bigger (thus dubbing it as dog olympics) and will be known not only nationally but throughout the rest of the dog sports world by inviting a French judge, Mr. Claude Kopp to moderate and evaluate the different dog entries.
