GenSan offers incentives to info tech investors By Leonard V. Flores
TO SPUR further the economic development of General Santos, the local government is building up the city as an alternate information and communications technology (ICT) hub in Southern Philippines.
Together with various government line agencies, the city braces to be an active part of the Philippine ICT corridor.
"After being twice adjudged in the PCRP study carried out by the Asian Institute of Management as the most competitive city in the Philippines, we would like to transform General Santos City as a major area in what now dubbed as sunrise industry," explained by Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) 12 Regional Director Ibrahim Guiamadel.
The City Government is encouraging new investments and expansions on ICT industry. ICT is included in the city's investment priority areas (IPAs).
As such, ICT investments would be eligible for incentives provided under the amended General Santos City Investment Code of 1995.
"I therefore call the ICT companies all over the world. Your entry to our city is indeed a very vital ingredient that would lift further the local economy and its environs, compliment in the increase of job opportunities, and add vigor and strength to the fast emerging economy in Southern Philippines," Mayor Pedro Acharon Jr. said.
"We would like you to personally explore the city's endowments and why some key industry-leading companies enjoy doing business here in Gensan. They are the authorities of the city's advantages in terms of their experience and they will be the ones to tell you why their businesses thrive and prosper," the city mayor added.
The city will be the host of the Soccsksargen Region's 2nd e-Business Week Celebration on the fourth week of October this year.
This weeklong celebration will be highlighted by the conduct of the 4th Mindanao ICT Congress and ICT Exposition.
